Morgan Park coach Nick Irvin said it after Friday’s win over Maine South that every night it’s going to be somebody else who leads the Mustangs to victory.
Thursday it was Josh Cunningham (37 points) against T.F. South, Friday it was Kain Harris (nine three-pointers) against Maine South, and Saturday against Fenwick in a Proviso West Holiday Tournament quarterfinal it was a more balanced attack during their 77-60 win. He’ll take all of the above.
The Mustangs (9-1) advance to the 8 p.m. Monday semifinal against Bogan for a shot to avenge their only loss of the season.
“War,” Irvin said. “That’s all I’m going to say. We are back at full strength so we are ready to roll.”
The team is starting to come around and believe in each other and that’s something we stressed last year.”
Cunningham had 23 points and 15 rebounds, Charlie Moore added 16, Harris chipped in 12, and Alonzo Chatman finished with 10.
The Friars (10-3) were paced by Tom Planek’s 18 points, and Mike Smith’s 17 points. Planek was playing with a broken nose he suffered in the Friday night win against Rockford Auburn.
