Hinsdale Central has once again tapped its West Suburban Silver rival to fill the Red Devils’ boys volleyball coaching position.

Mike Konrad, who was a starting setter when Lyons finished fourth in the state tournament in 2005, was named the new Hinsdale Central coach earlier this month. Konrad, 26, replaces interim coach Alan McCloud, the Red Devils’ assistant who took over the varsity last season when former Lyons volleyball and basketball star Kelly (Maley) Watson was on maternity leave with her first child.

Watson , who recently gave birth to her second child, resigned as head volleyball coach, but will remain an assistant athletic director at Hinsdale Central. She replaced veteran volleyball coach Len Serwat, who retired in 2011.

“Serwat has helped with me the transition,” Konrad said. “He has shown me what to do with the non-volleyball stuff.”
