Hinsdale Central's boys wrestling and football squads have been in a groove this year and there's one player who has been a big part of both, according to High School Cube News.

Hinsdale Central junior Juwan Edmond got a taste of success on the big stage at an early age.

As a member of the Proviso Powerhouse Wrestling Club, he captured the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation state championship in the Bantam Division when he was 7 years old.

Since then, he’s expected to win every time he’s stepped on the mat.

Edmond finished third in a loaded 145-pound weight class Saturday at the 48th annual Rex Whitlatch Wrestling Invitational in Hinsdale.

“I feel I should’ve won that bracket,” Edmond said. “It definitely felt like a state tournament today. I wrestled a really bad tournament. Hopefully I learn from this experience. I have to keep working so I can get myself on top of the podium by the end of the year.”
