Girls basketball: Hinsdale Central dominates Elgin 70-17

Hinsdale Central was up 30 at halftime and they cruised to a dominating win over Elgin in the first game of their holiday tournament, according to High School Cube News.

THE SKINNY

After losing three of its last four games, Hinsdale Central took advantage of poor-shooting Elgin with an easy victory Monday in the opening round of Wheaton North's Neibch Holiday Classic.

TURNING POINT

The Maroons (4-6) missed their first 15 shots to start the game and fell behind 25-3 until Maggie Powers made Elgin's first basket on a 17-foot jumper with 5 minutes, 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

THE STAR

Leading scorer Gabrielle Rush had 17 points in barely more than one half of play for Hinsdale Central (7-3). Rush played for only a minute in the second half as the Devils led 39-9 at the break. Rush scored the final eight points in the first half.
