Girls basketball: Nazareth shows toughness in hot start to season

Even an elbow to the eye couldn’t stop one Nazareth senior from extending her streak of consecutive appearances, according to High School Cube News.

Juliana Raimondi can take a hit.

She proved it again Saturday as Nazareth played two games on the final day of the Riverside-Brookfield Holiday Classic.

The Roadrunners, needing a doubleheader sweep to take the tournament title, pulled off a split.  Earlier in the day, Nazareth won 54-45 over the host Bulldogs in the semifinals to extend the Roadrunners’ winning streak to five games.

In the final, St. Ignatius wrapped up the tournament 5-0, capped by a 46-35 victory over Nazareth. Sydney Newman’s 3-pointer provided the Roadrunners with their only basket in the fourth quarter before missing their last nine shots.
