Lyons returns its top three gymnasts from the lineup that won the school’s first girls gymnastics crown and, so far, they've continued to win, according to High School Cube News.

Kelsy Kurfirst feels there still is much to accomplish at the high school level.

While a few of last year’s state competitors decided to stick with their club teams this season, Kurfirst and teammates Michelle Cozza and Katie Carling returned to Lyons hoping to repeat the team’s first state championship.

Lyons appeared stronger than ever at its second big meet of the season Saturday at Downers Grove North’s Mike Williams Big Purple Invitational. Teams were allowed to enter four gymnasts per event, with three scores counting. Lyons came in first with 111.30, followed by Fremd (108.80) and Naperville North (102.05). Last year, Lyons ended a 19-year winning streak by Fremd at Downers.

Lyons also won the Hornet Invitational at Hinsdale South by scoring 144.24, just 5.385 off its state-championship mark in February.
