HINSDALE – Hinsdale Central boys golf team lineup is well-stocked to take on the challenge of qualifying for their second straight championship, High School Cube News reports. According to High School Cube News,
"Hinsdale Central golf coach Jess Krueger has six standout players ready to defend last year’s rain-shortened Class 3A state championship.
The Solid Six are Brian Dolehide — who last season became the 12th all-state golfer in school history — Grant Filer, Kenneth Li, Drew Shepherd, Jeff Yoo and freshman Brendan O’Reilly, whose Illinois State Junior Amateur triumph last summer in Barrington included a career-best 66. Each is capable of breaking par on any given day.
“The pipeline continues,” the affable Krueger proudly said of O’Reilly replacing graduated senior David Whinery from last year’s team. “My job is to get the kids to state and get out of their way.”
The Red Devils won the 3A York Regional at Maple Meadows on Oct. 8 and on Monday captured the Naperville Central Sectional at Springbrook. Qualifiers advanced to the state championship Friday and Saturday at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington.
It would be easy for Krueger to determine lineups by pulling names out of a hat, but the Solid Six wouldn’t stand for that, even if it were just for fun.
“They get their competition from each other,” Krueger said. “No challenge is too big. My challenge is to keep them interested.”
Krueger emphasizes finding the fairway off the tee, measuring approach-shot distances, reading the hills and dales of putting greens and knowing which way the wind is blowing."
