DARIEN – Hinsdale South High School golfer, Jordan Urbanick, discusses he favorite way to get in shape for the season, golfing with his grandfather.
"Jordan Urbanick’s lasting memory of golfing during high school doesn’t involve wearing a Hinsdale South polo shirt decked out in the school’s black-and-gold.
Urbanick’s favorite moment is a weekly round with his grandfather at Beverly Country Club in Chicago. Robert Wehn, 68, is blind in one eye, but doesn’t let his handicap interfere with his enjoyment of the game. Or playing with his grandson.
“I started when I was 5. I was a junior golfer and I’ve been playing with him a long, long time,” said Urbanick, who lives in Willowbrook. “He had cataract surgery and his eye got infected. It’s sad, but funny. Every time he hits the ball, he asks me where it goes.”
Urbanick also will miss high school golf. It’s his only remaining prep sport after playing tennis, volleyball and basketball at Hinsdale South. Athletics helps his grades, Urbanick claims.
“I have a better GPA when I am playing sports,” Urbanick said. “It makes me organize my time a lot better.”"
