Sisters Toni and Marley Marano won the synchronized diving event at Hinsdale Central’s Invitational Saturday according to High School Cube News:
When Hinsdale Central’s Toni and Marley Marano compete in synchronized diving, the sisters believe they have a relative advantage over their competition.
“We always say we have sister telepathy,” Toni Marano said. “We don’t (practice) as much as we would like to (for synchro), but we always seem to be in sync. Competing with my sister is fun. We laugh and have a good time. I like diving with my sister, opposed to competing against her.”
Marley Marano, a senior, started diving when she was 8 years old and began competing with Windy City Diving when she was 12. Toni Marano, a junior, first hit the boards when she was 7 and joined Windy City Diving with her sister.
They first attempted synchronized diving two years ago for Windy City at a meet.
“Toni and I just do synchro for fun,” said Marley, who placed 11th in diving at the state meet last season. “We only really practice synchro when there is a meet coming up, but we love it because we are very similar divers, so we are good at synchro. Toni and I are very close and I love diving with her. We just like to go out there and have fun and it always works out for the better.”
In synchronized diving, two teammates perform the same dives at the same time from different boards. The divers’ goal is to be mirror images of each other.
“They have very similar styles of diving,” Hinsdale Central diving coach Steve Miller said. “They match up quite well. They’re in sync and know what each other is always doing. They’re close outside of diving and are best friends. Both are very good students and all-around good girls.”
