"Hinsdale South senior linebacker Cam Maher knows there are many ways to be a leader.
His way simply stems from his personality.
“I’m good at yelling at everybody,” Maher said. “Everyone is a leader in their own respect. I’m just more vocal and like yelling at everyone. That’s how I keep everyone up.”
Fellow linebacker Andrew James agrees with Maher’s self-assessment, but stresses that his teammate’s motivational techniques are done in a constructive manner.
“Cam is an awesome guy,” said James, a junior. “He gets us all riled up before the games and really helps keep our heads up even during our 0-3 start.”
Hinsdale South made sure its winless ways were a thing of the past Saturday. The Hornets (1-3) beat Proviso East 29-6 in Maywood to even their West Suburban Gold record at 1-1.
Hinsdale South coach Mike Barry appreciates the levity Maher brings to the field each day.
“I don’t want to say he’s a clown, but Cam definitely has a personality,” Barry said. “He’s a great guy. He’s involved in a zillion different things, from Habitat to Humanity to everything. He’s kind of like the student ambassador and a great guy to have on the team.”"
