In what is becoming a regular occurrence, fans are expected to flock to Hinsdale Central Saturday when the school hosts the 17th annual High School Hoops Showdown for the first time. This year’s event features a boys basketball doubleheader between Milwaukee Hamilton and Benet (11-4), ranked 18th in the Sun-Times Super 25, at 6:30 p.m., and No. 15 Fenwick (13-5) against the host Devils (12-5) at 8:30 p.m.

Hinsdale Central dropped out of the rankings this week after losing to Glenbard North Saturday in the Downers Grove North Winter Classic. The Hoops Showdown was formerly held at the Sears Centre, but organizers sought an on-campus site this year.

“They were looking at a number of venues,” said Hinsdale Central athletic director Dan Jones, who uses the Twitter handle @RedDevilsAD. “They visited here and chose our facility over a few others.” Since Jones arrived in Hinsdale in June 2012 from DeKalb, Hinsdale Central has emerged as a choice destination for big events.
