HINSDALE – Hinsdale Central High School diver, Margy McCarthy, continues to see great success during the school year after winning an AAU national championship with her summer diving club, High School Cube News reports. According to High School Cube News,
"Hinsdale's Cheryl McCarthy was thrilled when one of her triplet daughters decided a few years ago to follow her athletic path — even if it does come with some occasional teasing.
"My mom is a diver and we joke all the time about how I'm so much better," said Margy McCarthy, a junior at Hinsdale Central. "I do it as a joke because she had a great diving career."
Cheryl Wintz McCarthy was a four-year diver for the Red Devils before going on to compete at Iowa and Purdue. She finished fifth in diving at state in 1976 as a junior and seventh as a senior, so when her daughter placed fourth last year as a sophomore, Cheryl McCarthy was prepared for some more ribbing.
"Oh gosh, yeah, that whippersnapper," McCarthy said. Actually, though, there's no comparison. She's so far above me."
Margy McCarthy followed up her breakthrough state performance with a memorable summer."
