Nazareth Academy's Samantha Brown has returned for the 2013-2014 better than ever after a year in physical therapy for a torn MCL. Read more about Brown's return from High School Cube News.
"Nazareth outside hitter Julia Saunders might get most of the attention from opponents, but teammate Samantha Brown is off to a fast start as well.
Brown pounded a career-high 21 kills Friday in a quadrangular at Lyons. In the age of rally scoring, many players don’t even get 21 hitting opportunities in a game, but Brown was boosted by a marathon match that ended with a 25-9, 28-30, 25-12 victory over host Lyons.
“I thought I did pretty well,” said Brown, who committed just two hitting errors in the win. “Our serve receive was solid and our hitting was pretty good. I was able to put (the ball) away.”
Brown also had 10 kills in the win over Normal and seven kills during the victory over Fenwick at Lyons.
For the second consecutive year, Nazareth (9-0) is out to a solid start. The Roadrunners won eight of their first nine matches last season en route finishing 23-13.
Brown played in just the first 12 matches last year before straining the MCL in her right knee against Oak Park-River Forest and missed the next six weeks."
