BURR RIDGE – As a 16-year-old, Jessica Neumann had a choice after dinner: do the dishes or give her stepmother a foot massage.
Neumann went for Option 2 and a career was born. Over the past 17 years, she has administered thousands of massages. Along the way, her own background as a tennis player and work with people who are undergoing rehabilitation has made Neumann a highly sought-after professional.
After graduating from the Chicago School of Massage Therapy in 1997, Neumann went back to school to earn a degree from Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in 2009. In all, she has a Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine, a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and an acupuncture degree.
The driving force behind her extensive training is a desire to broaden her ability to help patients.
“I want people to feel better,” she says. “My passion is to inform and help people really understand their bodies and their imbalances and balance them out so they can go work out without pain.”
In 2012, Neumann joined Five Seasons Family Sports Club in Burr Ridge and has developed a loyal following of members she has helped as they recuperate from a host of aches and more serious injuries.
In addition, Neumann’s athletic history—she was the No. 1 singles player on the girls’ tennis team at Downers Grove North High School—gives her particular insight into the physical toll that befalls her clients. Those woes include tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff injuries, as well as carpal tunnel problems and tears of the ACL, Achilles or biceps.
To care for her clients, Neumann uses principles of reflexology, acupressure points and Thai massage, among other approaches. She is trained in Swedish, Deep tissue, Cranial Sacral and certified in Myofascial, Pregnancy, and Table Thai, and she specializes in massage for pain, injuries and imbalances in the body.
"It is my mission to create, through the art of healing touch, a future of health, body and mind awareness for every over-stressed individual," Neumann says.
