About 30 District 212 juniors attended the 3rd Annual WSC leadership Conference held on Tuesday, November 26 at Addison Trail High School. The conference is a one-day event where students from schools in the West Suburban Conference work in groups on different skills and techniques, and discuss ideas related to school. When the conference ends students are challenged to bring their new ideas, skills and techniques back to their school.
“At Leyden we work with our WSC Leadership team as they identify key issues they want to work with at school,” says Dominic Manola, Student Activity Director at East Leyden. ”We meet as a large group once a month, and then break into small groups and committees based on the different topics students want to address.”
Ultimately the students collaborate, plan, discuss and put together plans of action during the meetings and via the use of online Google + Community.
“Over the last couple of years this group has implemented some amazing things at Leyden including video announcements, the upcoming Turnabout Dance, possible curriculum changes and working towards the development of district-wide social media and technology policies,” Manola says.
