The Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago hosted its 12th Annual Gala of the Arts on Sept. 6 at Navy Pier Grand Ballroom. Allison Rosati, news anchor at WMAQ-Channel 5, served as mistress of ceremonies and The Buckinghams performed on stage.
More than 400 guests turned out to enjoy cocktails, dinner and raffles. An Art Show and Sale showcased original works and giclee pieces by local and nationally recognized artists including fashion sketch artist Rosemary Fanti, glass artist James Wilbat. Also available were photographs taken by Catholic Charities clients through the “After Supper: Visions of My Life Program.”
Michael and Carol Bilder of Burr Ridge received the 2013 Gala of the Arts Mandatum Award. The Mandatum Award is the highest honor from Catholic Charities and celebrates the awardees’ exemplification of Christ’s mandate to serve the poor with compassion and generosity. The Bilders have served as active committee members of the Gala of the Arts and donors since 2002. Carol was also an exhibiting artist at the event, donating her entire proceeds back to Catholic Charities.
All artists donated 50 to 100 percent of their proceeds to Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance Programs. To date, the event has raised more than $145,000.
