Step Up Women’s Network held its 3rd annual “Shine & Dine” benefit at Chicago’s River East Art Center on Aug. 15.

The 700-guest evening raised $180,000 for the organization’s after-school programs that mentor teen girls in under-resourced communities.

Step Up’s Chicago board of directors is chaired by Angela Elbert of Evanston, while Chicago’s Megan Wolfe chairs the organization’s national board of directors.

Others in attendance included Betsy Sobiech of Wilmette and board of directors members Peg Rowe of Lake Forest, Mindy Truitt of Highwood, Daphne Mazarakis of Lincolnwood and Susan Sycamore of Glenview.

Step Up alumna Felicita Hernandez spoke of how Step Up helped her go from an uncertain high school girl to a confident college student and aspiring nurse.

In the last four years, 100 percent of Step Up seniors nationally have graduated high school and been accepted to college. For more information, Step Up Women’s Network online.
