Family Friendly: Get ready to rock out at the zoo

Thaddeus Rex and his pal will perform at Brookfield Zoo.

Ralph Covert is as happy to be performing at Brookfield Zoo as his legions of young fans will be to see him there, at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28.

“Brookfield Zoo is one of my favorite places Ralph’s World plays because it is such a perfect family environment,” said the indie rocker, songwriter, playwright and children’s book author. “With lions, giraffes and guitar solos all in one place, could a summer day be any better?”

The high-energy performer will have his youngest fans — and parents, too — dancing to what he calls “rock ‘n’ roll for the whole family.”

For additional excitement, the zoo is throwing a dinosaur into the mix.

The 1 p.m. opening act of the concert double bill will be award-winning musician Thaddeus Rex, joined by Rockasaurus Rex, a 7-foot-tall dinosaur who encourages kids to read. Their performance celebrates the zoo’s Dinosaurs Alive! exhibit.

The zoo is on First Avenue between Ogden Avenue and 31st Street.
