The Rainforest Friends adventure begins as soon as participants arrive at Brookfield Zoo. “We meet our families at the south gate and ride the tram or the motor safari over to the exhibit,” said Marilyn Brink of the zoo’s Education Department.
That’s just the beginning of an exciting morning for children ages 3-5, with a parent, 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, or Sunday, Sept. 15, at the zoo, 1st Avenue and 31st Street.
The first stop will be the desert area where the children will help the keepers give treats to the meerkats. Next stop is the rainforest area to see such animals as binturongs, clouded leopards and pythons. “We’ll be looking for how they use their camouflage,” Brink noted.
The final stop is the Education Classroom, which has been transformed into a rainforest, for more research and discussion. Participants will snack on the same things that rainforest animals enjoy — fresh fruits.
The class costs $37. Registration is required.
